Membership

Membership is open to all those who share common interests with the aims and purposes of the organization, namely, "... to promote a community for those scholars concerned with the perspectives of phenomenology and related perspectives in the human sciences...(and) to promote fruitful and free discussions of developments pertaining to theoretical, empirical and substantive issues concerning these fields."

Membership Information

Membership in SPHS is $50 per person, or $20 for students or those whose income is low. We welcome your participation in the Society. The cost of membership covers the registration fee for the annual conference. (Only members of the Society may present papers at the annual conference.)

Each year the annual conference of SPHS is ordinarily held in conjunction with the annual meetings of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP). The conference takes place in October or November.

The membership year runs from conference to conference, and ordinarily extends from the first day of the annual conference to the first day of the conference in the following year. Membership dues, regardless of when in the year they are paid, include registration for one conference.

SPHS members have the option of subscribing to Human Studies: A Journal for Philsophy and the Social Sciences at a discounted rate. Many members also join the SPHS Email Discussion List, which is free to anyone.

If you are interested in joining, please send your name, address, phone and email, and institutional affiliation, together with a check or money order payable in US dollars, directly to the attention of SPHS Treasurer Lenore Langsdorf. Feel free to use our printable form to join SPHS, or to distribute information about SPHS at related conferences.
